In the article "Streamlining Print Production: Print Workflow is in use in the Advent of Full-Blown JDF," Kim Crowley shares interesting market forecast data from an April 2007 InfoTrends report. "The report examined a number of software categories that make up print production workflow, including creative/layout, production workflow management, print management information systems (MIS), print controller/RIPs, variable data, print e-business, and prepress solutions. In North America, this market was valued at an estimated $3.4 billion in 2006, and is expected to reach $5.6 billion by 2011, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.7 percent. The production workflow management component constituted about 16 percent of this market, with a value of $550 million in 2006 and a projected value of $1 billion in 2011." Industry experts, including Adobe's Lonn Lorenz, share these thoughts on the current state of print production workflows.
This report is full of interesting statistics. Here is a brief excerpt, stating that in Winter 2007–2008:
Industry Measure reports are available for online purchase at the Industry Measure eStore in PDF.
Considering its relatively short history and the setback that occurred in 2000 and 2001, Web-to-print is still in the early adopter phase. Overall, only one-third of all respondents to a recent InfoTrends survey in Western Europe indicated that they had deployed a Web-to-print solution, and another 20% were considering deploying a solution within the next few years. If all of these respondents did in fact deploy such a solution, this would result in a 68% increase in installations over the next 5 years. To learn more about the report or to make a purchase, visit the InfoTrends online store or contact Robyn Wuori at robyn_wuori@infotrends.com.
